Site Preparation Options
Limestone Pad
Spread 4" #57 or #8 limestone or gravel in a level pad 24" wider than the width and the length of the building. Also you may want to use 4 x 4s as an edge as shown in the example photo. Of course, we can prep your site! Contact Us for an estimate.
Block Foundation
Place 8" x 16" x 2" cement blocks underneath the skids, spacing them four feet apart. Every skid needs a block at the front and back and then additional blocks need to be placed in the middle spaced not more than 4' apart. (See Skid Placement below) For an example, a 10' x 12' barn has 5 4"x4" treated skids placed crosswise. Each of the 5 skids, at 12 feet, needs 3 blocks: 15 total. Do it yourself, or we can handle it for you, too: $1.40 per sq. ft, up to 6" off the ground.
Concrete Pad
Pour the pad to the exact dimensions of the building. We then remove the wood floor from the order and attach a treated plates to the bottom of the wall that will sit on the concrete. This treated plate protects the walls from moisture and rot. We will then drill and place 4" anchors through the plate in the concrete, eliminating the need for the contractor to place anchors in the concrete when poured.
Post Foundation
Use 4 x 6 treated posts. Dig the post holes 42" deep. Place post pad or concrete in the bottom of the hole. Insert 4 x 6s. Fasten 2 x 10 joists with bolts to 4 x 6 posts as shown making sure that the entire structure is square.
